I came to the idea of working with clay during the time I had Covid. Being confined and secluded within my room made it difficult to preoccupy myself. Working with clay was a material I was not used to, however, I still wanted to produce something that was representative of the emotions I felt during this time. The unevenness of the textured surface of the clay signifies the lack of balance in my life during this time. Seclusion and frustration are the emotions felt and portrayed, however, with the simple shape of the clay it also represents emotions such as calmness and peace. The use of light colours was a way of signifying joy and sensitivity. The small hints of blue was used as it is typically associated with tranquility, therefore I wanted to use various hues to portray my state of mind during the making process of these clay items. The use of white is eye catching yet relaxing, which gives the piece a more vibrant appearance. This could be seen to reflect the unfortunate situation I was in at the time, which I inevitably made good use of.
