This table was a project that I was very fond of. It incorporated materials that I was unfamiliar with, but was excited to work with. The corks used were ones that were collected over many years by my parents, therefore, there is a sense of preserved history through the use of the resin. The table acted as a conversation starter, not only for staff at my school, but also for people visiting my home. By using black spray paint for the legs of the table, I attempted to contrast the rustic appearance of the table top in order to make it more eye catching. I wanted to keep the overall structure of the table simple so that it emphasized the nature of the corks themselves. In order to highlight the details within the corks, resin was used which in turn enhanced the overall appearance of the table. The roughness and imperfections within the corks contrasted the industrial appearance of the legs, which complemented each other well. This contrast was also emphasized by the matt spray used for the legs and the polished appearance of the resin top, which signified my belief that contrasting things can be unified together to create intricate and beautiful products.
